Newfoundland Guide Recommendations

I am headed to Newfoundland this Aug - Sept... looking to avoid the Lodges and big outfitters... I am completely flexible and would like to find a well equiped guide that is flexible and willing to move around... I am looking for some recommendations for a reasonably priced Guide and lodging w/meals, I would greatly appreciate any advice you can offer...

All the best fishes!

Lower Humber

Hello Bob,
I cannot comment on who to recommend personally, but I would say that all but three rivers in NL close Sept 7th with 99% of their run already in the river system. If I was to spend time with a Guide in NL that time of year it would be on the Lower Humber River in Corner Brook. The Lower Humber fish generally run later and are taken well into August and September. I should also mention they are some of the biggest that NL has to offer with fish in the 20-30lb range not being uncommon. I am from St Johns which is 7 hrs away, so my Guide knowledge that way is limited.

So if no one else can chime in as to Guide specifics, I would look for someone in that area code.

Best of luck and feel free to PM any questions!

Thanks for the info... My research says you are spot on... NL is a long haul for me to get to... Not to mention the expense... so I am more inclined to go there for the Adult salmon... my intentions are to fish the Humber, Exploits and Gander Rivers... I have the names of several guides so far... I am going to closely monitor the runs this spring and summer... if they are average or above I will get in the car and go... getting too old to put it off... Newfoundland has always been on my bucket list... Thanks again!
Best Fishes! -Bob

I would contact John at the Marble Inn, outside Deer Lake. I had a great time with them during my honeymoon.

Rob Solo would be another guide that I would contact. Rob is on Facebook and has been guiding for over 30 years out of Corner Brook.
