Golden Dorado

After 20 years visiting some Skeena tribs for steelhead, I'm now seriously thinking of going to South America in 2014 for flyfishing on golden dorado.
I have no specific country in my head, but I do prefer wading and walking when I fish, not from a boat, and in clear water, not murky.
I cannot afford a $7000 per week lodge.
I need a guide to show me around, not a guide to land the fish that I play!
All information about locations are very welcome.

Thanx in advance guys!

Bram (from Amsterdam )

Hi Bram,
There are a few places that you can wade for Golden Dorado, most of the time fish from a boat or a raft. Of course you have Bolivia for a wading trip, but you have to put a big amount on that trip.

In Argentina you have a few rivers that you can wade for Golden Dorado, but need a horse ride and definitely a guide.

I recommend you try some Parana River basin, you have a lot of places.

Not only are the GD's big and ornery, but take note of that Pacu at about the 5:10 mark. It looks like a fresh water permit.

This may be a bit richer than what you're looking for, but it will get the blood flowing...

While on the Rio Grande the week before last one of our guides was telling me about his experiences guiding on this river. He says the best month to go is August.

Dorado

Yeah that Devil's Gold movie is the kind of fishing I like!
But as we cannot ride horses, we do need transportation by 4x4.
Most outfitters I've seen so far are far out of my financial reach, but I found one in Bolivia who has decent prices.
And indeed August-early September seems to be a good moment!
Keep on posting guys!

Brambo,
I think the best recommendation in Bolivia is to take care of the outfitters you travel. Since Tsimane put Bolivia in the radar, lot of fishermen want to go and try there skills, but travel to Bolivia is not a simply thing. Sometimes Cheap is not the only thing to consider. Also Tsimane have a lower cost trips since this year.

I know just 1 operation that make camp trips "like" Tsimane, and i think the 2012 was just the first season.

Regards

Cristian

Thanks for your input Christian.
I have some info from Amazonia Dorado. They outfit groups of 4 anglers.
4x4 ground transportation, 2-3 nights hotel accommodation and 4-5 nights in camp.
Their fishing season runs from June to mid-October.
Is this the 'one' outfitter you mention?

regards,
Bram
