NE Oregon between Christmas and New Years?

A friend and I may be doing a guided trip on the Nestucca between Christmas and New Years. If we are going to drive that far it will be a multi day trip. If we were to hit one other river in that area what would be the best choice for swinging?

I can bring a drift boat if needed or fishing shore access is fine as well.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!

I would venture to guess you meant NW Oregon? That would be a cross country trip! Plenty of other coastal streams to hit. ODFW just posted their winter steelhead guide on their website, give it a look!

You are correct, NW OR. I'll check out the ODFW flier. It is sometimes difficult to filter the ODFW info for spey specific info. Hopefully it'll help.

Thanks!

Thumbs up

Have to agree with "08" vis a vis the water's I know. I've found their here's what's going on to be pretty darned accurate. A bit dated, but still a good over view. Here's the link to the one that gets updated/published (right to your e-mail inbox if you sign up). Just pick the Region you're going to fish and ''click.'

If you find good water for the swung fly with your guide you might want to stay on that river. The coastal rivers are small and therefore good swing water is minimal. One also has to deal with those that fish gear from the boat. You could just go exploring and see what you can find.

Nehalem

Try the Mocalaca river. Big water about an hour from the nestucca river!
