Matane

Good Morning all,
I have read the the run on the Matane typically starts later than the Matapedia and other Gaspe rivers. Late July/early Aug from what I can gather. Can anyone confirm this? Having seen only a few photos of the river it appears to be a little smaller than the Matapedia. Wondering if an 8wt switch rod will be adequate as a main rod. Any info from those that have fished it would certainly be welcome. Thanks so much all! Cheers,Chris

Matane and matapedia rivers,

If you plan on fishing these rivers bring a single hand rod . There are places there where they don't tolerate two handlers if you can fish from both banks.

NOT true for the Matapedia

Don't sweat the bad casts for they sometimes bring you fish

I had pretty much planned on my main rod being an 8wt switch rod. Will ahve a single hand and also a larger 2 hand for the Matepedia. Hoping to get away with the switch for most of the time. Cheers.Chris

have fished it once in 2008. classic river.contact the Owner at Metropole. you can certainly make use of the DHander.
season starts mid june. takes time to get to know the river but could be very productive. If you look at the statistics it has been consistently the most productive river over the past 10 yrs or more. sadly, that is also the place where most of the killings are taking place...
Liked it a lot.
