Newfoundland Regulations

Things are getting all squared up for my honeymoon, however I am having some difficulty getting a straight answer on some of the regulations in Newfoundland. Here is the section taken directly from the Newfoundland Anglers Guide:

A non-resident may angle unaccompanied on non-scheduled
waters within 800 metres of a provincial highway; beyond that
point an angler must be accompanied by a licenced guide or direct
relative who is a resident.

So does this mean as long as it is non scheduled water (list is in the guide) that I can fish on my own as long as I have an inland license?

Any clarity here would be great. I have no issue with hiring a guide for a couple of days, however, it is nice to be able to fish on your own sometimes.

Thanks for your help

Where a bout's are you going in Newfoundland ? When I fished the humber there was only one spot to fish (salmon) without a guide as it was on tidal water as well as right beside a numbered highway. But is was Not my kind of fishing and I would rather higher a guide than fish that spot again !!

We are starting in Deer lake and making our way east to St Johns for my fishing partners wedding. Could you describe the spot to me more in a PM.

Thanks

Hi.You are reading the regulation correctly. You have the right to fish unaccompanied within 800 meters of a provincial highway. This regulation was designed to accommadate trout fishermen and if I were you i would stick to fishing lakes and ponds close to the highway, maybe get a trout for breakfast. You would need a seperate trout licence.Stay clear of small streams as they may be tributaries to major salmon rivers and could be either licenced or closed to angling.

Helpful Hints...

As I understand the rules...

I just returned from my first trip to Newfoundland / Labrador.

Unscheduled waters are trout streams within 800 meters of a bridge and above the 52 parallel for salmon streams.

Other than this you need a guide. Hope this helps.
