On The Towy 9th June

Hi All , I will be fishing on the Towy for a week starting 9th of July .
To day the river is 6ft 5ins and raising at Capel Dewi, I don't mind if it stays high for the next week before starting to fall. This will bring fish into the river, then all you have to do is find them !
I just hope that the Seals stay out at sea this year, as last year one adopted me ! Each day I fished it turned up, not good as I had NO GUN!!!

I will travel in hope and fish with expectation.

Brian

Sometimes 'high water' is a huge bennie when it comes to seals clustered around a river mouth. Russian river in Nor-Cal was a good example. Hundreds of these damned things plopped on the beach ....just waiting for 'lunch' to try the river mouth.

Heavy rain would knock the river out and greatly expand the 'mouth;' only way fish could get past that pack.

Just shows were my minds at !!

yes I did mean JULY !! I have so many dates in my head at the moment , charity event, fishing matches, hospital appointments so on and so forth .
Four of us are going and not one of us had put the date down, I had to call the guy who rents us his old ex mill to find out when we were booked in !!!
A nice place at ponti cothi ( hope I have spelt it correctly .)
Close to the river and a good pub, The Salutation , good food and beer !!!
The seals are not the only predators on the river there are nets men using coracles, still catching large numbers of sea trout and salmon.
I know it has been going on for hundreds if not thousands of years but there were more fish then.

Thats something I'd like to do next year, head to Wales and fish the Towy or Teifi for a few days, or maybe the Dee or Tay. I just got off the Fishpal site and fishing the famous rivers can be very reasonable , not half as expensive as I thought it might be. "Baldrick, I have a cunning plan"!

join a local club

Hi Klink, if you want to fish Wales join a club, I am a member of the Carmarthen and District , if you buy a day ticket it's £40 a day ! As a member it's £75 a season. Pensioners £35 ! You must join pre April, Water on the Towy, including Golden Grove beats, The Cothi and Gwily .
There are lots of club waters in Wales most to be found on the net.
Lots of good accommodation ,self catering or B&B .
When planing a trip have a look at Tide Tables, High tides mean more fish entering the rivers.
As most of you guys are catch and release you are not affected by 'none kill seasons '.
Lots of good rivers in and around Wales well worth a trip, people, food and BEER
all top rate.

Brian thanks for the info. That is really cheap membership for a world renowned sea trout fishery. I'll have to start doing a bit of research for next year. I know a couple lads from an Irish forum go to Golden Grove every year for a week and have done for the past six years, it is something they really look forward to.

£1700 + a week

Hi Klink,if your friends stay at Golden grove they will be paying £1700 + a week that will include a shared guide accommodation. Our week will cost £150 for accommodation plus a season of £75 so may be £10 .
You can get a guide to take two for £75 per night.
So you can get 3 weeks for the price of one on the grove.
If you are thinking of going I can PM you some info.

Thanks Brian! It will probably be next year before I get the chance to go over at this stage, but any info would be great.
