Haida Gwaii Guide Recommendations

Hi All,

East-coaster here looking for some information on the West Coast. My sister and my brother-in-law rented a place in Haida Gwaii from July 22nd-26th (lucky bastards). They are going there to hike and camp, but my brother-in-law got into the spey thing last year and wants to hire a guide. I know ZERO about fishing out there. Are they even in the right season? I'm thinking maybe hey can skate dries out there?

Anyway, can anyone suggest a good guide?

Freshwater? Nothing for steelhead then and too early for salmon. Might be tough tracking down a guide who isn't busy with salt chuck trips that time of the year.

Yes, freshwater. Ok, so they're out of the loop then?

This is an easy one. Look up Yos Gladstone with Chromer Sportfishing.

I'm not sure what the timing of the runs in the Charlottes is, but I'd be seriouisly looking at getting a guide to fly fish the chuck for coho. That's prime coho season for ocean fishing near the Skeena. Those northern coho (around 20 lbs) are outstanding on the fly.

It is not really necessary for him to have a guide during this time period. It is a Pink Salmon year and they will be showing then and there is a chance for early Coho. Wild Searun Cutts of course. Estuary, beach, and stream fishing.
Singlehand or double, his choice. He will need a vehicle of course. He also has the option of hiring a guide for the salt which at this time is a good bet for many species of fish but seeing his limited time frame he might consider fishing with gear if he goes with this option just to explore what is available.
P.M. me if you wish as the date gets nearer and I can give an update.
Bryan

re guide

Consider contacting Noel Wotton-he has fly fished the Yakoun/ Tlell etc for many decades-also fishes the estuary of theTlell river-a bit early but there may be a few coho hangin' in the mouth of the Tlell--on your way from Sandspit airport to the area around Port clemens[Yakoun]
also the Deana river just out from sandspit can be fun
