Smile Kauii Bonefish May 2012

Spending 1st 2 weeks of May in Kapaa, Kauii for the first time and will be trying my luck for bonefish. Already got a lot of good info from the nervouswatershawaii.com site. Anini Beach looks like a good place to start. Will take my Echo 8wt switch and a single hander as back up.Anybody have any recent experience over there. My bonefish experience is limited to Long Island Bahamas. Any info will be much appreciated

Huge bonefish.

I had a great time, first with a VERY knowledgable guide, Rob Arita, 914-523-8920, then on my own.

I was successful, but casting challenging, as all fish seemed to be offshore from me, and the trades are East to West -- so over ones right shoulder.

If I used 8 lb tippet in Belize -- here you are talking at least 15lb tippet.

Have a great time!

Hi loc

Thanks for the info. Looks like a challenging environment as the wind is always blowing over there but will do my best . Have heard good reports about Rob and will book a day with him. Rest of the time will be sneaking away when the rest of the familly are sleeping or lying on the beach !

Aninii Beach is a great flat. Did well there in January, caught a couple of 8lbers.
