Yesterday on the Laune Kerry

Was out yesterday, against my better judgement, very little rain now for the past number of weeks and the rivers here are pretty low. No salmon but did see a few sea trout come clean out of the water. Just thought I'd share a few photos.

I hope the Ireland travel bureau is paying you well because now I really want to go there. Beautiful.

Thank you Andrew and if you do ever get here, just let me know, and I'll take you for a cast. This river, The Laune is in Killarney, County Kerry, about forty five minutes away from where I live. I mainly fish the River Blackwater which is more or less on my doorstep. Lots of rain today and more forecast so hopefully things will start to pick up.

Wow that looks beautiful. Is the river open to the public?

great pics!

Thanks for sharing these great shots. I have fished in the west of Ireland and seeing these just make me want to get back and fish those terribly beautiful rivers. Make a cast or two for me next time you're out.

Geoffvl, yes the river is open to the public. Firstly a state licence is required, an all Ireland costs 100euro per year, local for Cork and Kerry is about 50 for the year. Daily and weekly licences are also available. On top of the state licence, a permit to fish the river is also needed, I paid 25 euro yesterday for my permit for more river than I could hope to fish in a week, so I targeted two specific beats. This is run by a state body, beats 1, 2 and 3 and most of the rest is run by the Laune Anglers Salmon and Trout Association. A small portion is private and there is even a stretch that can be fished for 5 euro for a day. Nearly all rivers here are accessible to the pubic via day permit with some free fishing also.

Come back anytime Will, we need your dollars! So where did you fish? I'll be having that cast for you tomorrow on the Blackwater.

Sure was Gary, a real joy compared to today! However it has brought a serious amount of rain, so hopefully with rising water a resulting influx of silver might follow and in a day or two will be fishable.

Klink,
Thanks for the photos. It always amazes me how "alike" and yet
"individual" streams look. I find myself staring at the water, trying to
"read" it.
Best to you,
