Southern Norway in August

Planning a trip with my wife and kids... We will be traveling around Southern Norway in August for a combination of site seeing and visiting her family.

Of course I am going to sneak out for a day our two on the river. I have been doing research via internet and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

So here's what I'm looking for... A day or two of quality FF (either single or double) with a guide... Will fish for salmon or trout - or really anything that would be "in season".

Anyone been there, or have any contacts? I know I could travel up North to Trondheim and fish the Holy Grail, but thats not in the cards...we will only be there for one week.

Hi,
the Mandal is maybe one of the more popular rivers in the southern part, been there once. But I am definately not an expert for Norway. Maybe its worth to have look into some english salmonfishing forums (try google, don't wanna post links here...allowed?). There are some guys from Norway who know the places best.
Besides fishing its a really nice country. And yes, you are right, driving up to the Gaula is a pxxn in th axx. They have speed traps every hundred meters (at least I had the impression) and don't get caught speeding - it is really expensive!!!
Have fun!

Hi,

Last August we visited friends from Norway who are from Voss.
We flew into Oslo (scarily just a day after the terrorist attack), caught a scenic train to Voss, stayed there for 4 days then caught the train to Bergen, stayed a couple of days then flew out.
In Voss, our friends' neighbour was a part time guide and fishing nut, and he organised some fishing for me on the Gudvangen river in Gudvangen, which was closed for about 8 years due to overfishing, but recently reopened. I fished the public sections completely alone on the first day, then the owner of the beats showed me around on private beats on the second, and pulled out 3 fish to 15lb in a few hours.
If you'd like some details, drop me a PM.

Cheers,
Steve

Norway

I know some guys from flyfever.com are frequently going to the south of Norway. Their site is in Dutch but Google can translate. The Dutch word for Norway is Noorwegen.
Maybe it can help you.

My best memories are not too old!!
