Vancouver island salmon retention/limits info?

I'm going to be fishing the Gold river and Port Mcneill area for two weeks in late september and trying to get in grips with the local regulations. Does anyone know what the limits are for those rivers that are not mentioned in this DFO list? http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/r...egion1-eng.htm

Lots of rivers that we are going to fish have no mentioning in that list.

We are probaply going to only bonk a few fish on our trip and probaply all from the estuarys and beaches, but it would be intresting to know the freshwater regs also.

If the water body isn't in the regional table (your link), the limit is 0. This document should help give you more information

Like it says on DFO's page that you linked to, you need to use DFO's information in conjunction with the BC Freshwater Synopsis to determine where and how you can fish in freshwater. Vancouver Island is in region 1. Read page 1 of the book (page 5 of the document) and you'll learn how there are three levels of regulations starting with province wide regulations, then region wide regulations and finally, water specific regulations. Applying these three levels will ensure you're fishing legally.

If you don't know the difference between steelhead and the different types of pacific salmon, it would do you well to look at the pictures of the fish in the synopsis as it can sometimes be hard to tell them apart to those that haven't seen them much

My initial post was badly written. I should never write a post in a foreign language when I'm in a hurry to get to work...

I'm very familiar with the province wide regulations and can identify all the 5 species of salmon + steelhead.

I'm just a bit unsure on what are the retention limits for those rivers that are not in the DFO list. I assume it's C&R only, but was looking to verify it from someone as it is not that clearly written in the synopsis.

In the past we have fished in the lower mainland in rivers that have been on the DFO list. So it's been a no brainer on the limits.

Like I said and referenced in that document if the water body you are fishing isn't mentioned in DFOs regional tables, the limit is 0. Also, don't assume that just because a river isn't in the DFO regional tables that it means it's open to C&R either, it could be closed and you'll need to consult the BC Freshwater Synopsis. In fact, there are even cases where the water body is mentioned in the DFO regional tables yet it is closed in the BC synopsis. The Cowichan below the 66 mile trestle is a perfect example of this.

Bottom line, consult both regulations in concert and use the lowest common denominator to determine how you can fish.
