So for those of you that went this year, what did the upper river look like? I mean from Kalone Creek down. I talked to a buddy that went and he said it was almost unrecognizable. Instead of the pool, tail out, drop, pool, tail out drop which is the norm, he said it is just a huge scoured trench with little braiding. The river is all in one channel.

my first heli trip ... went in to rabbit ... fished aug 1 - 8 ... initially had promise as we got a few ... then as water dropped the fish would not hold in the run and just blew through or didn't enter. Was told Parallel only fishes from one side and many runs have changed ..
I suspect Rabbit filled in a bit from what it once was ... with the water dropping was a wide narrow shelf of 2 - 3 feet with a seam that wouldn't hold fish and the far boulder seam against the bank was rippin ... tried it with 12 ' of T-17 ... no luck. Great camp trip though.

Steve, nice to meet you on the river. Thanks again for the chicken. It didn't go to waste.
Yea, that upper area has changed. Giants not so much...Eagle was OK but nothing special. Alder has changed quit a bit since I saw it last several years ago. We didn't stop at the upper camp water. Aquarium doesn't hold fish like it used to or it's just too fast and bouldery to fish effectively. We blew by moose and stopped at the next corner down before the river splits around an island before coming back together above parallel. Yea only one side now..that's too bad. Bowling alley is blown out and the river runs straight down to rabbit with little to fish. Anchor is gone because the river doesn't go there any more.

The bridge hole and the confluence with the Sakumtha put out a few fish then it's another new channel down to the Shannon area at that big slide. Lots of fast water with a couple small spots on the right then one good pool. Lower river has changed too but there's water to fish if you work with the guides.

I'd like to know more about Hornet below Hodsen's place if anyone has any info. It wasn't obvious to us where the camp was as we floated by. How far below Hodsen's is it?

Cheers, Graham
