Any Steelhead opportunitys in May?

Hi all,
I am moving to Vancouver Washington in August. My Girlfriend and I will be scouting the area The week of May 14-22. I would love to sneak off for a day or two and swing some flies!

I am an East Coast guy with no clue
Are there any opportunities for steelhead with a swung fly around this time? I would be willing to drive a few hours. I will be very limited with time, so inside of a two hour drive would be even better. I'm not looking for any special info except a few river names. I don't expect much but would just like to know that I am somewhat in the "game" if you know what I mean.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to PM...

Go to the sponsors' page and click on Deschutes Anglers and The Fly
Fishing Shop sites - they're next to each other. Look at fishing reports;
maybe even give them a call.
If nothing looks promising, take a drive out to the Olympic Peninsula;
you can fish it next season and gawk at it now. Spectacular!

The Sandy River Spey Clave is that week. You should be able to get lots of info there. Looks like it is less the 50 miles from where you will be.

There should be summer steelhead at the time of your visit in the Kalama, EF Lewis, NF Lewis, and Washougal. These rivers are all less than a one hour drive from Vancouver, WA. A couple more rivers in the vicinity may also be open and have early summer runs then, but I haven't heard yet.

The vedder/chilliwack has a stellar return this year and is about 3 hours plus border traffic from van, wash. With the cold spring we've had it might remain in shape for a couple more weeks.

It was decent on the Kalama a month ago... did you get blown out while you were here? August gets better. Much more summer steel opportunity when you get back out here, with swinging fly opportunities. PM if you'd like more info.

If you haven't heard, the Columbia hit flood stage yesterday. No major flooding, just the Vancouver lowlands.
