The season will open as usual ,HOWEVER , all ZEC offices are considered non essential services and will
remain closed as will access barriers such as on the Cap Chat. (This might change .)
Game wardens will have a list of who has passes on each river
Since the offices (for the moment) will be closed ,a method to retrieve your
passes will be established as will on line purchase of Quebec fishing licenses
You will have to be alone ( or passenger from the same address as the driver) in your vehicle while traveling through Quebec and as it stands bring your own food
Motels etc. will be closed as will the camp sites .
Quebecois ,Canadians from other provinces will be allowed to access to travel .
The Canadian /USA border is closed until May 21 and , IMO , won't open soon , if at all this summer .
If you're flying in, the 14 day quarantine is in effect .
For all rivers you will be able to
- Keep your reservation/pass as is
- postpone your reservation /pass to the same date in 2021
- cancel your reservation with a full refund
I should have more info next Wednesday
Have trips booked for July and August to the Gaspe, so will be following with interest. The big issue is the mandatory 14 day self quarantine upon return to NB. We have been very fortunate here with only 120 cases in total- only 2 or 3 cases in the past 3 weeks, no deaths and almost all have recovered. NB is not in any hurry to relax border restrictions. Will be tough on the outfitters here. Also in Newfoundland and Labrador where they just closed the borders to tourists (ie. fishermen).
Brian thanks for the information. Would you please post the link or website where you are getting this info. as it would be handy to have. I am specificly interested in folks that are property owners, like myself, who will want to have access etc. and obviously quarantine procedures would still be followed. I was just informed that road blocks in Matapedia will be limited on or about May 10. but nothing is definitive except 14 day quarantine policy.

The french version:
Tel que spécifié dans le communiqué du 3 avril dernier, le ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs maintient la date de l’ouverture de la saison 2020.
English translation (different from the post)
As specified in the April 3 news release, the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks maintains the opening date of the 2020 season.
What exactly opening date do they maintains ? Someone have miss the 5W off communication. Don't clearly see the what.
I guess it means that the usual seasons still stand on each river, ex: Matapedia May 15th, York/Dartmouth/St-Jean May 25th, etc.
I was able to book myself at Motel Adams (now Roadway Inn) in the town of Gaspe, and they have been servicing guests throughout the entire "pandemic". I spoke with the receptionist on two occasions, and they never shut down anything but the restaurant, which is open again now.
The US border and the inter- and intra-provincial travel restrictions are the keys to be watching. US border is the easiest to get news on, but for the regional highways, little harder.
Last update we heard from Legault last week was that we could drive between all regions by May 18th inside Quebec. Crossing at ON and NB borders may be further restricted.
For the sake of keeping the peace with locals, I'll be stocking my cooler with groceries and supplies here before heading out.
...but I WILL be heading out.
Usually I make the yearly pilgrimage drive full of anticipation and joy, this year it will be anxiously trying to avoid roadblocks.
It's a little bit unclear if the road blocks will he lifted entirely, or roadside interviews to prove you are "essential", which begs a discussion of the meaning of essential altogether.
If and when I get there (May 28th/29th), I'll post my experience for sure.
Regardless of how folks feel about the ASF, just received their summary in newsletter, will post here:
Charles Cusson, ASF's Regional Program Director in Quebec writes:
"An update on the angling situation was expected from the provincial government on May 4, but the date came and went with no new information.
"As the season is scheduled to start on May 15, how to live with social distancing directives for Zec/River management groups will be a challenge when considering the issuance of fishing permits and remittance of daily access passes.
"The ability to register daily releases and catches electronically is being worked on by the Manisoft software company and should be available in time for the start of the season.
"The government has stated resource protection efforts will be in place as usual, carried out by provincial conservation officers. Auxiliary officers who were accredited last year will be allowed to work in 2020.
"During the next few days, river managers will be reaching out to customers with early season fishing reservations to find out what they want to do prior to final payment being processed. Anglers will have the choice of receiving a full refund, choose later dates in 2020 or request the same reservation dates for the 2021 season if possible. As the season goes forward, this process will continue with customers being contacted within seven days of the reservation dates. Any rod day cancellations will be made available in the 48-hour draws.
"Inter-regional travel restrictions within Quebec have been loosened since May 4th and will continue until (for the time being) May 18 when people from the Island of Montreal area will be permitted to travel to other regions of Quebec."
More info from the Saumon Gaspé dg. It`s in french. Hope the link works. He is confirming the opening of the York/Dartmouth/St-Jean for May 25. But also not recommend to fishermen, coming from outside of the Gaspé region, to stay home. Also, in an other news report, mayors of different towns from the Gaspé area are not that in hurry to open the region.
Brian, Brian, Claude and the rest of you reporters. Great job and Thank you so much. At a minimum we now have some links and phone numbers to check as our dates get closer. It will be chilly camping up at Premier Est on the Bonnie. What a great location and some graby Salmon.

There is a petition running in Gaspe that wants to keep everyone out until at least June 30
So far they only have 21000 ( I'll update the #'s weekly)They want the police barrier at La Pocatiere to remain in place until then .
One community that is totally against this is the town of Rimouski who's gas stations I WILL support once passage is allowed
The owner of the Bistro-Bar Le Brise-Bise in Gaspe has also said they he doesn't support ANY ban of travelers coming in
Two well known figures in the salmon fishing community from that region have supported the ban .I won't publicly post who they are .
I've messaged both of them to say they have nothing to worry about from us fishermen .Here's what I wrote to one .” I hope your aim is bad and you miss as you shoot yourself in your foot “ and “Quebecois are Quebecois and I thought we were not falling into a divisive mentality which as we can see is ripping the USA apart ! “
The FQSA executive and their lackeys support a ban on traveling Quebecers but for Montrealers only
Here's the translation of the petition
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We therefore demand that the Quebec government keep the La Pocatière checkpoint in force, at least until the end of June 2020,
in order to fully measure the impact on the spread of the virus following the de-containment of
schools and from several sectors of the economy.
FYI for anyone that has reservations for the Gaspe ZEC's waters (York, Dartmouth, St Jean), their policy is NO rollovers of reservations to 2021.
You can get a refund of 90% of the total you paid for reservations (I assume not 100% in order to cover credit card fees), by contacting them a week prior to your reservation date.
Wonder if anyone has any information on plans for the Cascapedia. Has the Society issued any statements? Are the camps going to be open, or closed? Anyone heard anything?
Friends here in the states received cancellations on their Matane reservations with reimbursements coming. I have draws on the St Anne and Madeleine with no word yet. But, my hopes of going are pretty slim. I worry over losing a season rather than possibly the fee at my age.
As note, Iceland seems to be accepting international anglers starting in June I think. You can take a test upon arrival at the airport to confirm that you are COVID-19 negative.
It looks like New Brunswick’s borders will remain closed to non-essential travel until at least July.
