fishing in Oman

Hi everybody,

I want to ask if anybody has first-hand experience of the fishing in Oman?

I am planning to visit the Salalah area in the coming spring; I will be bank and surf fishing on my own (all commercial offers are way too costly).

I need info on the sizes and colours of the best flies for the area, especially on the crab imitations for African permit (it looks like its biology is different from what we know on the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific permits).

Thank you!

Happy New Year!

I recently listened to an episode of the Wet Fly Swing podcast and the guest was Ray Montoya. He runs an outfit in Oman. I don't recall if they spoke about flies specifically but it's worth a listen.

P.S. I just had a quick look at your blog. Looks like it's well worth digging in further.

Very interesting, theres a film pick for 2020 IF4 featureing Oman.

A quick google yields some guide outfitters, so maybe start with them, sometimes they have gear lists.

GT's and I-P permit, very cool. I would think queen fish too?

I would think general saltwater bait fish patterns would work, them seem to everywhere else in the world.

working on my 10,000 hours...

The guys from Fly Fishing Bow River out of Calgary
are the ones that made the movie above. Tim, one of the guys featured is a buddy of mine, and was really cool to watch them document their trip through Instagram. I would highly recommend reaching out to them, as although there are a few sport fishing operations in Oman, Fly fishing was new to them.
