Clearwater

Currently enroute to the Clearwater and canít wait to see that river. The steelhead fishery may be closed...but the river, guides & friends...and The Red Shed are still there trying to figure this fall season out. Our group of 5 had scrapped our trip at the closure announcement and with a bit of ďwe just want to be thereĒ behind us, have arranged for a couple half days on unfamiliar water after smallmouth and a day on Dworshak after the same. Will make just as many wonderful memories, with some new experiences in the mix...and Iíll get my Red Shed fix. Half tempted to add a Red Shed Special Meiser while Iím there. Folks in that area need the support as the fishery is critical to their economy.

Report and a few pics next weekend. Wings in Missoula for now...

A perfect example of "catching is not the most important thing" when it comes to fishing trips with friends

Good for you. Love and miss that region. Fall is the favorite time to visit.

Oh man - but the irony of it all!!!

I hear you. I'm in Winchester myself (up the hill from Peck) and plan on stopping in at the red shed myself just to say hi and buy some things I don't need.

Have fun. It's sad seeing the river empty, but it makes me a little happier to know that nobody is messing with them.

Agreed, although it seems like a hollow fall without steelhead. We drove down to the Ronde a weekend ago to have a look, but have not gone down to fish. I would have switched to the Ronde and Snake already in normal years because of the aluminum hatch, but just have not felt like going down this year because of what is happening on the Clearwater.

There are also some amazingly, Beautiful trout streams up that way. And what a great way of supporting a shop during this time, that has supported all of us ............

Is this just another excuse for me to buy more rods ?

Driving up the river on the way home from the Ronde the other day definitely hurt. Had a lovely three day float on the lower last week. Even managed to get myself my first fish of the fall. We saw only wild fish over the course of the trip, which made me smile a bit, too, but my buddy was blown away by how few fish were around. Also headed down to North Fork and the Upper Salmon a few times over the past week. Got a few grabs yesterday and a few fish have been caught. Fewest people I've ever seen down there for mid-October. The economic impact of this is very very real for these small towns.
