Portland, Oregon

Hey all, planning to visit a sibling here in Portland this coming weekend and was wondering if there’s any steelhead/salmon fishing to be had? Looks like the Sandy and Clackamas are the closer rivers? Any suggestions, tips, and info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Sid

I'd target the Sandy. It has some slow summer steelhead fishing, but there are in there. Also has salmon starting to come into it; would be worth fishing near the mouth for them. Clackamas is also an option, but seems a bit slower than the Sandy in terms of numbers.

Thanks for the reply! Any fly recommendations for this time of the year?

Depends on what the river looks like, the warm weather can color it up. For steelhead I use black/blue or orange/red. For salmon try pink/cerise or chartreuse.

If you're serious about it, you might consider a guide from The Fly Shop in Welches.
