Swinging San Juan late Sept.

Plan to hit the San Juan below Navajo Damn last week of Sept. Wondering whether to take along a spey rod.

Any experiences/advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Just called a fly shop there. They said they see a few guys using them, but didn't know what types of flies they were using.

I have done a fair bit of swinging on the Juan...at the end of the day buggers and sculpzillas on my ACR 13' 5 wt. have done well. I typically use a scandi with a med. sink leader. This year the water will be up to about 1500 and will require a skagit to get down. I have used intruders with some success as well as butt monkeys.
