Question Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City - has anyone fished the urban rivers ??

Going to Vietnam for the first time during spring vacation next month due to the excellent low cost - last minute fares available.

We are staying for 10 days in Ho Chi Minh City - ward / district 2 at an AirBNB.

Also visiting the Mekong river delta near Ben Tre.
Wanted to get some river bank angling with my travel spey rod.
Anyone have experienced fishing in Vietnam / HCMC / Mekong river?

Yup. 50 years ago exactly. Best results with concussion grenades. A bit non compliant with catch and release. And No One will low hole ya.

Yup. Also almost 50 yrs ago, my old friend "Carp" Cundell spent too much free time catching local carp and giving same to villagers.

I'm in Vietnam at the moment, been here for 2 months now, escaping the Canadian winter, haven't fished the rivers myself, watch the locals fish daily in downtown danang, and in the ocean here as well. Don't see them catch much, they have better luck by boat.
Done a LT of fishing in Thailand in fishing parks, caught giant Mekong kings up to 80-90 pounds, lots of fun.

My 9 th winter here, 4 months at a time, if you need info, send me a PM.

What I saw go into the Mekong would, even today, keep me from taking anything out of it...

I do appreciate the sardonic humour in this thread. To a point, because sometimes it is hard when a family member had a good chunk of their body blown to bits in a conflict of questionable value.

Might be worthwhile getting to know modern Vietnam a little better. After the next Great Recession, increasing numbers of manufactured items will likely be imported from Vietnam. Just sayin'.

Otherwise.... 4sallypat, Did you go and if so how was it?

Science is not common sense. Much of it is devoted to a systematic documentation of what we do not know and understand.

Humor in thread above may appear to be a little dark to some. But, it is a way to live with the experience of those who served when young and came back to be vilified by many who did not.

Was there last winter I thought the rivers were way to dirty to fish in myself, I was in the in Tra Vinh part of the Mekong delta. After that went to OZ now there's a place to fish
