Hello, I am looking to get some insight for a trip to the Gaula.
If you have been, your recommendations, lodges, fish camps, any thing you wish you had done differently, people, places or things to visit.
Thank you
Regards JMM

I have been three times, enjoyed myself, and caught nothing. I would go anticipating a good experience, but don’t have high expectations of success. You may well have some, and the chance of a lifetime fish. Like anywhere else, it all depends on water and weather. My experience has been with NFC, which is first rate but not inexpensive. There are other options that appear quite good. Keep in mind Norway is an expensive place for everyday things compared to the US, there will be some sticker shock.

Depending on when you have planed to go:

End of June, July and August. Winsnes lodge are top shelf.
Situated above the Gaulfoss (foss = waterfall). Fish usually dont pass the waterfall before mid June.

Start of season (June 1.) and out June. (or entire season)
You cant go wrong at Horgøien (Horgoeien), situated below the waterfall.
Another exelent choice are Valdum/Valdøyan (Valdoeian), situated below the waterfall.

Also like SalmonCane said, NFC and GFF have nice program.

You should not wait long, many places are booked long time in advance.
Best of luck!
