Question Fishing Alaska August 13 to 20?

I am renting an RV out of Anchorage August 13 to 20. Have booked the first 2 nights at the campground on the Russian River. Looking to fish silvers, rainbows and dollies. Have my spey rod and single hander packed. Any advice on spots to hit or areas to visit after first 2 days would be appreciated? Pm if you like.

Thanks in Advance!

Just a heads up will be thick with bears be careful rotting Salmon caucuses, easy to catch salmon = bear bonanza

If I were you I would take some of the $ I am saving on accommodations and do a trip on the Copper/Kenai guided

I think I fish, in part, because itís an anti-social, bohemian business that, when gone about properly, puts you forever outside the mainstream culture without actually landing you in an institution. ĖJohn Gierach

From the campground at Russian River, I would focus on trout/ dollies personally. For Silvers wait till you are closer to the coast. Do be bear aware around the Russian for sure! I sent you a PM with some info before, if you want more specifics PM me again. Iíll probably see you up there when you are down closer to the coast; Iím flying up the 13th as well. Can hardly wait!

Today, Alaska Fish and Game closed the Kenai to Sockeye/Red fishing for the remainder of the calendar year. The Kings have been shut down for some time, a perennial dose of happiness due to low fish counts. There is speculation amongst some that Silvers will be next. Commercial guys are already loading up.

There will be a ton of trout and dolly fishing. Flesh flies will be a great one, and if silvers are around, it works on them. It's a pink year too. Those nasty creatures will get in the way during your trout fishing.

Check out the fish counts. Google Anchor River, Kasilof River.

Thanks for all the advice! I do have experience around bears from the Smithers and Terrace area in the fall fishing steelhead, so will be extra careful up there.

I have my 2 sons with age 14 and 18. They have done a lot fishing for dollies, coho or as they in Alaska silver in our area. Hoping for some good action on silvers and they haven't done much rainbows. I am packing 3 singles handers and my spey rod.
