I've just made last minute arrangements for a Salmon fishing trip to Labrador and I'm looking for advice on fly patterns or anything else for the Pinware and Labrador in general....

Blue Charms Bombers and don't tell anyone Black Bodied Mickey Finns on a streamer hook on cloudy days low light and Torrent River specials the same on a bright day.

Size to suit water..... your hosts will have lots of the flavor of the week but also do not shy away from looking outside of the box so to speak

I have fished Labrador rivers for the last 25 years including the Pinware. My mates are up there now, and the water is high. Wets in sizes 8 to 1/0, (I rarely go below #6) Blue Charms, Wet Bugs (like green machines with tails), Black Bear Green Butt,....and Muddlers...in many colour varieties, especially green and black.
Dry flies in #6, #4, #2. Browns, oranges, greens...with tails and horns like Wulff.
If you are able to get flies tied ahead, the lighter wire hooks are best for hitching.

Bring 6lb, 8lb and 10lb leader. If you have the chance, grab a braided leader or two. The river is really rocky, and they will help from a big one fraying the mono against the rocks.

There are no Char that far south, and the only rainbow you would ever find is an escapee from a bloody fish farm. If you get one of those...kill kill kill.

Oh yeah...bring DEET (the good stuff), and if you are partial to smoke, cigars go a long way to keeping the black flies from torturing you.

Have fun!
Chris
