Cascapedia RT 299

Just received word of RT 299 along the Grand Cascapedia has been washed out by Trout Brook. This is the main road north to the wade water fishing.

Wow

I expect some exceptionally high water on the Restigouche as well. Spoke with my contact up there a couple of weeks ago and there was still 5 feet of snow in the woods...

That makes it tough for the lucky, or not so lucky folks that got early draws on the wade section. Makes my high draw number, without a call look much better.

You can catch a lot of fish, and you can keep a lot of fish. But you can't do both very long. Jim Timmins

Last year there was record high water in May that undermined the highway bridge crossing the Cascapedia. By late July the water was at record lows.

Having driven that road many times, this is not good. Not a road builder, so don't have any idea of how long it will take to fix, but it sure doesn't look like an easy job.

Wow. Two years in a row. Lots of water again.
Glad to see they plan a temporary fix by June. We have several days on the branches in mid-June.

Where exactly is the break in the road, i.e. which pools and camps are cut off from the town and Society office.

Drone footage

ASF just released drone footage of the work being done at Trout Brook to repair RT 299. Looks like they still have a ways to go.

Heading up this weekend. Just received a report from my buddy, who has been there for several days, fishing is very slow. Water is running cold and only a few fish caught.

Things have been late this year so expected the returns on the Cascapedia also to be late. Hope the fishing improves in the next week.
