Looking for someone join on booked trip to Fall River in Northern California

Hey folks. I have Art Teter, one of the most well known long-time guides of the Fall River booked for three days, June 1,2 & 3 and am looking for an additional person to share the trip with me. It is a long story, but the stars were perfectly misaligned on this one with all the usual suspects being busy or unwilling this year. If you might be interested in joining me on this trip let me know via pm and we will discuss it more.

Here are some more details. The guide fee, sans tips, is $450/day so your half for the three days would be $675. I have not arranged housing yet so we could go in optional high or low style, but would be very willing to share an inexpensive hotel room. If you live in Northern California I’d be happy to car pool and pick you up. If for some reason you arrive at the airport (could happen) would be happy to pic you up and drop you off.

As an extra incentive I’m willing to pay for any shared hotel accommodations myself, and all the gas for any carpooling arraigned.

The Fall River is a spring creek, the premier one in California and arguably one of the best such fisheries in North America. It is located SE of mount Shasta which is visible in the distance. Fishing is typically with 5 and 6 wt SH rods (sorry spey junkies) from boats (wading is nearly impossible for a couple of reasons). Typical styles are slow swinging wet flies and nymphs from the boats, streamers, and casting dry flies to rising targets of opportunity. Relevant to the latter, in the evening is a hatch of the famous giant hexigenia mayfly, one of the largest mayflies on earth - larger than a ping pong ball. If fishing this hatch is something that motivates you I will check with Art and find out how well our dates will work for fishing the hex hatch. Lastly, since this is spey pages I will point out that during these dates the American Shad run will be on on the rivers of central cal. If you are in the area you can potentially get your spey on before or after the 3 days on the fall.

Getting long here. I’ll be happy to provide more info through private channels, but I’m expecting many people who might want to go will need no intro to the river. Let me know if you might be interested via pm.

You may be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement about how bad my single hand casting is.

Wow!!
Not a lot of access to Fall River last time I checked. What a great opportunity!!
Some of California’s best trout rivers are also nearby as well.....
This could be a bucket list worthy trip!!

Botsari,
Sounds like an epic trip. I wish I had some extra shekels and could join you. Fall river is a beautiful fishery. Around that time there should be some PMDs, midges, and maybe some Tricos. If I remember correctly, the Hex hatch goes from the first full moon in June (the last week) to the full moon in July. So you will likely be too early for that. PM me if you want to fish the upper Sac, lower McCrowd, or the Pit. The golden stonefly hatch should be in full effect.

Nate

Bring the swing.

New bonus, I will pay for any shared accommodations and all carpooling gas, if any.

Forty to fifty years ago, my father and I used to yard fish out of Fall River like that guide is holding. We were the only ones on the river then, and I mean ONLY. In the years we fished it, we NEVER saw another line in the water. I reckon everyone thought it was just a slow meandering puddle wandering through cow pastures.

We used to keep a boat at Ray Mack's place, but he's gone, and his place is no doubt under new ownership.

I reckon there are still some lunkers in there. As far as I know, they don't stock Fall River. At least they didn't when we fished it.

Little 18 -20 nymphs with no indicators was the name of the game, all year long. We just watched the end of our lines for the grab.

Here's a shot of my father in 1970 with dinner. This was a pretty typical fish then. Those were the days!

So, don't miss Botsari's offer!

Gentlemen and ladies,

Last call for a spot. Still looking for someone to join me at the last moment. Price is reasonable- your share would be $225/day plus tip. I’m plaining on staying in Burney CA.

Let me know via pm if interested.
