Madeleine River,QC

Have hopes of fishing the Madeleine for the first time, in June, and wondering if Murdochville would be a good place to stay for reasonable access to the river. Will appreciate any advise.

You can catch a lot of fish, and you can keep a lot of fish. But you can't do both very long. Jim Timmins

I assume that you're fishing sector 1 and/or 2?

Personally, I'd rent a cabin from the ZEC, although might be too late for that.

I wouldn't stay in Murdochville, it's an armpit. Personally, I'd stay at the Hotel du Rocher on the coast by the town of Madeleine. Nice scenery, better food. Lots of driving though.

I do not have any draw water on the Madeleine. This trip would be an exploratory on this river in July with intentions of fishing the uncontrolled sectors, and possibly applying via the 48 hour draw for the lower sectors. I had put in for draws on the Grand Cascapedia, and the Cap Chat, and did not get favorable numbers. The ZEC has a minimum amount of cabins on the Madeleine. I have a camper, but don't see any option to camp there, but don't know how to contact them this time of year. I am considering Murdochville because of the large campground on Lac York.
The town of Madeleine would be more driving that I would like for the upper sectors. Thanks for your info though.
