Skeena River Help

Hi Everyone, Hopeful to make a steelhead trip to somewhere on the Skeena River system in fall 2010. Looking for sources of information and in particular any good books about the different steelhead rivers in that area.
Thanks, Mike

There are three must have books in my opinion. The Skeena River Journal, by Rob Brown, The Kispiox River Journal, by Art Lingren, and the Backroads Mapbook " Northern B.C., by Mussio Ventures. The Mapbook is sold in most gas stations up here now, and the other two books are published by Frank Amato and can be purchased or ordered through almost any flyshop.
Google Earth is a wonderful tool for some of the rivers, but others such as the Morice and Copper it is practically useless due to poor "graphics"
It's always well worth the $50 by stopping into a local flyshop, buying a few things, and asking some info.
The scenery is stunning, the people are warm and welcoming, and the fishing is second to none. You'll have a great trip, it's inevitable.

Dave at Fish Tales in Terrace is one potential source of such advice.
In my opinion Fish Tales is the best tackle store in the area.

They are at ...

Showed up last year at Terrace in Mid Auguest and went into "fish tales" and asked for some advise and flies( and willing to spend some money). All we got was that we were here at the " right place and the right time, so figure it out yourself " and then ignored us. If i treated a customer like that my boss would be losing a boot up my butt.

I am sorry to hear of his retirement but I am happy for him! He got alot of my business and he went out of his way to track down items for me and at a fair price. What some people don't realize is that a willingness to spend money doesn't guarantee anything. Dave was not a guide and should not be expected to be one. A person's approach often influences replies and in the summer it is busy up here. Kudos to Dave for great conversations and service. Get out there and fish and of course ski in the winter.
