St Mary's River

Hey all,

Just wondering if any of you have or have seen anyone on a drift boat with a motor run up to the Edison Wall before.

I would love to try it out but I just have a few concerns. 1. How deep is the water there? 2. Can it get rough? 3. Once Im there how do I hook up to the wall? and finally 4. How fast does the current get?

Thanks

If I have my bearings correct and my memory is functioning properly, the Edison wall is on the Canadian side. That eliminates the issue of freighters other than perhaps near the launch. There is a launch on the Canadian side which should eliminate that problem, too. However, my map shows there is a launch on the Michigan side, too, and that could get interesting. Depending upon water levels coming from Lake Superior, the water along the rapids ranges from intimidating to downright scary. I would suggest you would want to be very experienced with a drift boat before even considering it. There may be a way to access the wall without negotiating much of the rapids, so let's hope that someone who's done it chimes in here. Heron, is your internet connection working today?

I was wrong. The Edison wall is on the Michigan side. It was another power plant on the Canadian side that I fished. Also, I've been told that the launch on the Michigan side does, indeed, expose you to a lot of freighter and barge traffic. The person I spoke to agreed, however, that only a very experienced drift boat operator should even consider making that run, and then probably not with the typical 4-6hp motor that many drift boats sport in this area.
