Guide services in Finnish Lapland

Hi all:

I will be at the Kevo Subarctic Research Institute during the third week of July. I would like to get a bit of fishing in, but this is my first trip to the region. I know the Tenojoki and Näätämöjoki have decent runs of salmon and grilse respectively.

Any recommendations on a local guide service or choice of river?

I'd really appreciate any info.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I've fished the Teno for several years and it truly is a magical place. It's not the best for place for traditional fly fishing as it is so BIG, but there is allways that small chance of catching a fish of a lifetime. There are several pools to choose from and the permits are cheap. I don't know any fly fishing guides, but there are many harling guides to choose from if your intrested in that.

You can PM me for details if you want.

Is the Näätämöjoki better "fly" water?

The Norwegian part of Näätämö(Neiden) is a better fly river than the Teno as it is much smaller in size, so it's easier to control. The Finnish part of Näätämö doesn't get as much fish as the Norwegian part so I wouldn't recommend that.

The Teno has a lot of fine fly fishing pools in it and if you want to I can email you a map of the river and show you my "secret" spots
