Fellow Speypage members,
I am thinking about moving to Chile for a period of time (6 mo – 1 year) and wanted to know if you know of any desirable areas for fly fishing.
I will be taking my wife and family (son age 10, daughter age 8) so social and family life is also a major consideration.
Let me know if you know of anybody down there that you can recommend that I discus this further with. If any members are from there please drop me a PM or post a response to this thread.
You will enjoy your stay in Chile in many ways, not only fishing as well.
It is a friendly country, people is fine, and the landscapes in the South unbelievable.
Regarding fly fishing, both with the single and the double handed rod, there are different areas in Southern Chile, from the IX region up to Tierra del Fuego, where you can enjoy several ways of fly fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, sea run brown trout, and salmon (salmo salar, chinook, cohos) with several lodges and experienced fishing services.
You may find a lot of information in the web. Try the chilean fly fishing website www.rìosysenderos.com
for specific data about the sport in the country (mostly in spanish, do not know if also available in english).
But, best of all, when staying in Chile, you could also visit us and fish in Argentina, where fly fishing for wild trout is at its best in Patagonia.
Just cross the border by car to reach our best rivers.
Enjoy your stay!
