Argentina (Patagonia) info???

Good Day,
I am heading to Bariloche, Argentina mid January for 10 days of angling with my father. I was wondering if any of you have any personal experience with the area rivers and can offer any info on suggested rivers, flies and guides etc.. It is my understanding (possibly wrong??) that it is almost a necessity to have a guide in the area due to the extensive private property crossings required to access the many rivers and lakes (not to mention the local knowledge!!)???
Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

patagonia guide

I've fished 3 times with Martin A. Freedman, owner of outfitterspatagonia.com, who lives in Bariloche. Each time we have fished different rivers, because we leave it up to Martin to chose those in the best shape at the time. Check out his website and if you contact him tell him Bill Taylor says "hello". He will tell you what to bring in the way of equipment, flies, etc. January should be a good time for dry fly fishing, but I'd also take a sink tip line and some streamers. You don't really need a 2-hander, but spey casts with your single-handed 5 wt. are fun. Martin is a great guy, speaks fine English and will treat you right.

i am currently in argentina on a do it yourself trip. you definitly do not need a guide to find fish if you can put in a little work. the limay river is very close to town and is my favorite river ive seen so far. its very large water beginning about 15 km east of town and working to the east. there is plenty of places to access the river in that area if you rent a car. we fished streamers and dries. lots of fish eating caddis in the morning and streamers the rest of the day. plenty of spey water if you look for it and some very large fish. good luck if you go.
