Salmon River NY

Just wanted to post about my trip up to the infamous salmon river last week. It was completely different than what you hear and I am pissed it took me 3 years on the east coast before I gave it a chance.

Was there mainly during the week and the crowds were not that bad at all and with all steelhead fishing a little walking goes a long way towards solitude. Fish were caught on the swing and lots of browns kept things interesting. Also the thousands of steelhead in the river was not bad either....

I will be back soon and a big thanks the Shaq for the tips on fishing the river. Been a long time since I had been steelhead fishing and glad to know that resource is only about 5 hours from the house.

The GL fishery does not get the respect it deserves and I am happy to say I was wrong with pre-concieved notions I had on the Salmon. From what I hear I would not go in sept/oct but november was just right.

Once the salmon die the scene completely changes. Those big, dark and moldy salmon on gravels seem to bring out the worst in people. I would always look forward to november and pray for a warm (relatively speaking) december. It's amazing how few people fish when they can't see fish on gravels.
