Roch NY opertunities

Idaho spey guy will be in Roch NY seeing family Sept 18- 25. Is it worth hauling my spey gear back to chase some fish. Any info is appreciated. As I never really fished the area before.

the genesee river is reletively short but wide and gets nice runs of steelhead and salmon.from the first impassable barrier -the waterfall- the river runs about five miles to lake ontario.the river has big water for spey rods .thats one option good luck.

BRING YOUR EQUIPMENT! There will be a few fish in the Genny at that time of year...BUT, if you have the ability/time, you should fish the Salmon River in Pulaski. About 1.5hrs away but in the time frame you will be here you have an excellent shot at lake run browns, kings, cohos, and steelhead-all in the same day! I live in Rochester and fish the Salmon very frequently. Let me know what your plans allow for and I would be more than willing to show you some good water

Randy Jones guides out of there if you are looking for help/a boat. I've never used him there (he guides summer stripers off Cape Cod, too). Good guy. Actually, he was the person who introduced me to 2 handers!

Flew over the Genny on my way back into town from Alaska and she looks blown now so it probably won't be an option. It drains an aweful lot of farmland and rain can put it out for weeks...or a whole season. Still early for a good push of chrome in the Genny anyhow. Mostly kings in there now. Zack won't steer you wrong on the salmon river...dude practically lives on the thing. Just be prepared for crowds. It's salmon season up there.
