Angry Sandy river

About 4 years ago I called the guy who ran the camp on the river. Asked him the same question. After he quite laughing , he explained the weather, often VERY BAD, NO PLACE TO CAMP EXCEPT THE BEACH WHICH MAKES THE WEATHER EVEN MORE OF A FACTOR, LOTS OF BEARS, probably your least problem, and then the weather again and again. They even have problems with their super duper platform tents in some weather. It is a very inhospitable place without the right gear and experience. I suggest you contact the guy who runs the camp to get the best info. What he told me I also got from a friend who has spent time in that area. Brookrain

Sorry, I should have answered your questions. You can camp there. I believe you could get an air charter out of Port Heiden. As for the camp operator, if it is the same guy, he will be helpful, but will try to discourage you. Not that he is concerned about the fishing space, but that he will have to end up helping you. You might want to check the average weather out there in late Sep!!!
If you decide to try it, I and several friends and I have been floating rivers in alaska for 15 years, unguided. I,d be happy to give you some ideas.
