Bulkley Water

I am planning a week on the Morice and Bulkley in late Sept / early Oct.....

Is there any "dangerous" boating water from Bymac down to Trout Creek?

I have been only on the Morice, never the upper Bulkley and I am just looking for any river safety advice...

I'm Speyed......who knew it would feel so good.....

Hi Brent,

Nothing to worry about from bymac to Smithers/Chicken Creek launch. From there to Trout is another story. If you are good with white water you will be fine if not I would take out at Smithers. There are several rapids one with pretty big consequences called Drift Wood.

I hope you have a great trip.

Tatlow "falls" is halfway between Telkwa and Smithers and is easily bipassed on river right - a photo is included in my photos.
Driftwood canyon between Smithers and Trout creek has a big drop that has drowned a number of experienced boaters over the years and should not be run on one's own - I would only take it on if you have significant whitewater experience and several boats with at least one person in the group who has done it before. It should NOT be run with a small oneman pontoon boat. You are better off taking out at Chicken creek in Smithers or at the highway bridge leading into Smithers.

even though tatlow can be very easily bypassed, it can be deadly. It has also taken lives.
