Where to go in Oregon or Washington

Hello all,

I am from northern Idaho, I have two friends from Southern Idaho. We like to meet once a year for a steelhead trip. This year we decided we would like to hit a coastal river in either oregon or wash. We are used to fishing the Idaho rivers, but would like to try something new. Would anyone like to suggest a destination and time to fish on the coast. If you have suggestions on guide service that would be great too.

Thanks Mike

Its hard to beat the Olympic Penninsula in late winter/early spring. Of course the danger in planning a trip to the Northwest that time of year is the weather and river levels.

Thanks, The Umpqua in November was also mentioned, Which is a bit strange to me since it seems it would be the slack time between the summer and winter runs? We are all new to spey casting and would want to book with a guide who was fluent in spey casting.

You have lots of really good options. As mentioned the OP would be a great place and has several first class guides (Steve Buckner, Doug Rose, Jeff Brazda, Ryan at the Swung Fly (site sponsor) all come to mind). The Tillamook Bay coastal rivers is another with first class guides (Scott Odonnell and Mike McCune). If you wanted to check out the Skagit/Sauk Rivers you could touch base with Ed Ward or John Farrar.

Enjoy the journey!
