First 1/2 doz. biggies spotted on the York !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And not a "bottom fish" in sight ;-)
First 2 fish caught yesterday on the Causapscal.
If this season is 1/2 as good as the Landlocked and Laker fishing has been around here it's going to be decent. The Shad fisherguys are smiling big grins also !!
The River Tay in Scotland has reported a healthy run of big fish also.
The Bridge on the Trinite ,North Shore, Quebec has breached .Not really bad news here as fishing below the dam IMHO was a zoo anyway .

Here is the translation, being from BC I am not exactly certain who/what the Federation of Quebec is (whether it is government or what I am not sure - I think it is the Quebec Outfitters Federation), it is a little confusing at the start...

Translation: French » English

Hi!

The Federation of Quebec is doing to defend the United-States Bill Greiner, owner of the Order of the river Malbaie (Gaspé), which has lost its "trade authorizations" to act as a supplier on some rivers salmon Gaspé Peninsula. Mr. Greiner is also the spokesman of a band who wants to act as an outfitter for fishing for salmon in the Gaspé peninsula ...

-------------------------------------
Withdrawal to a company the right to operate following a complaint

The Department of Natural Resources and Wildlife in error

Quebec, May 23, 2008 - The Federation of Quebec (QOF) is categorically opposed to a recent decision by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife (MRNF) to revoke the outfitter of the river Malbaie the right to guide its fishermen on rivers Gaspé: rivers York, St John and Dartmouth.

This decision, taken at the highest levels of the Quebec government, was taken for "economic considerations related to salmon fishing in the Gaspe and in order to maintain a social climate acceptable to all fishermen and managers rivers to salmon Gaspé Peninsula. "

Thus, because the provider has "dared" to criticize some respects the management of salmon fishing in Quebec, because he "dared" to criticize openly the system of drawing lots providing access to some pits salmon in some rivers under management of a ZEC, the MRNF retire to a private company which has a turnover of approximately $ 400000 and which provides employment to a dozen people the right to maintain its operations on the rivers to which it is one of the most effective promoters on foreign markets.

Such a decision would place an entire economic sector in a situation of uncertainty. Indeed, several dozen companies outfitters operating in whole or in part under an authorization to trade within a zec or a wildlife reserve. But in this case, the MRNF seems to consider that the authorization of trade can be withdrawn without notice, a few days of the start of operations on the basis of a simple complaint accusing "words and writings, false or inappropriate" which "raises questions about the integrity and ethics of a company that has to be a partner in the government." It also seems that the only arguments are the basis of the decision, no details on non-compliance with the authorization of Commerce provider has been provided.

The QOF simply can not accept a similar decision that has consequences so important not only for a private company, but also for the reputation of the Gaspe and Quebec as tourist destinations. The closure would force the company to effect the cancellation of hundreds of clients, mostly non-residents who have already booked their stay and transport. The Quebec government should immediately revise the decision.

The QOF has nearly 400 members outfitters and employs a dozen people. It is the main spokesman for an industry that generates over 120 million dollars in direct fallout in the regions of Quebec and participates in maintaining over 6000 jobs. The outfitting of Quebec offer activities of hunting, fishing and outdoors and offer more than 5000 accommodation units for rent in Quebec. They welcome annually over 425000 people including nearly 100000 non-residents.

Hi!

The Federation of Quebec OUTFITTERS is to defend American Bill Greiner, owner of the Malbaie outfitters(Gaspé), which has recently lost its "trade authorization" (or in English) his commercial licence to act as an outfittero n some rivers salmon Gaspé rivers. The Department of Natural Resources and Wildlife ( IE: QUEBEC GOV'T ) is in error

Quebec, May 23, 2008 - The Federation of Quebec OUTFITTERS (FPQ) is categorically opposed to a recent decision by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife (MRNF) to revoke the outfitter of the river Malbaie the right to guide its fishermen on rivers Gaspé: rivers York, St John and Dartmouth.

This decision, taken at the highest (NOTE HIGHEST) levels of the Quebec government, was taken for "economic considerations related to salmon fishing in the Gaspe and in order to maintain a social climate acceptable to all fishermen and and to the managers of rivers to salmon Gaspé Peninsula rivers .

Thus, because the provider has "dared" ( ON PEYPAGE S)to criticize some respects the management of salmon fishing in Quebec, because he "dared" to o n some ECcontrolled rivers u.The MRNF is to revoke a private company which has a turnover of approximately $ 400000 and which provides employment to a dozen people the right to maintain its operations on the rivers on which it (MRO) is one of the most "effective promoters " outside Quebec.

Such a decision would place an entire economic sector in a situation of uncertainty. Indeed, several dozen outfitters operating in whole or in part under an authorization to trade within a zec or a wildlife reserve. But in this case, the MRNF seems to consider that the commercial licence can be withdrawn without notice, a few days of the start of operations on the basis of a simple complaint accusing "words and writings, false or inappropriate" which "raises questions about the integrity and ethics of a company that has to be a partner in the government." This was a PRESS RELEASE FROM THE THE QUEBEC OUTFITTERS FEDERATION and and is diametrically apposed to the Quebec Gov't (both the ruling Liberal party and BOTH the opposition parties )
-------------------------------------------------------------------
IMHO
It is a well known fact that any one that were in the employ of MRO that have a renown reputation WILL be immediatedly grabbed up by the many outfitting services in the Gaspe area .
I COULD add a hell of a lot more but won't ;-)
Cheers

Ha` but "dat French to Japanese to Hungarian to Swahili to English translating service" would be okay so long as the letters in the French words were larger than the rest Or am I outdated on that?

Regardless, I think I get the gist of the "Outfitters" statement (with or without your defined version). Thanks.

I seem to remember some words from south of the border. "Of the people, by the people, for the people". Or something to that effect. . If you can get someone to interpret the entire thread on the FQSA section of the Quebec Peche site you will get a good idea of what "the people" think.

As a long time observer of these developments some other words come to mind.
"What goes around, comes around."
or "Live by the sword, die by the sword."
or "You made your bed, now you lie in it."
or "Too big for your britches"
or etc. etc. etc.

As someone with no axe to grind and some small degree of personal knowledge of the goings on I feel that M. Greiners situation is one entirely of his own making.

Frankly I believe that xenophobes of Quebec have stuck again! Rather than blowing up mail boxes, like the "old days", now they're trying to blow up businesses that don't have the right accent. Simple solution.........see you in New Brunswick!!!!!!!!!!

Thumbs down

P.S. I forgot to mention that you can still feed your blood lust in Quebec and kill a few MSW breeding salmon to prove just how tough & brave you are.
