Question Heathrow

I have a 4-1/2 hour layover at Heathrow June 27th--never been before. Can anyone recommend a good pub or other spot to relax between flights?

Pubs

Dana,

Go to the sites:
Add the www. to the following

beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml?tu=131 - 37k - (64 pubs within a 3 mile radius of the airport)

milesfaster.co.uk/information/heathrow-airport/heathrow-pubs-bars.htm - 15k -(No less than 9 pubs right inside the airport, 2-3 per terminal)

That ought to wet your whistle!!!

Heathrow pubs

There are a couple of pubs on Heathrow airport Dana. Some of them also has Guiness beer (if you like that brown Irish beer).
But nowadays with a lot of luggage problems on Heathrow, 4,5 hours isn't really too much!
With some bad luck, you really need those 4,5 hours to get your connection!
Anyway, finding a pub on Heathrow is not difficult. Please realize that you also have to travel by bus between the several Heathrow airports! Most bus rides will take 10-20 minutes.
Have a nice flight!!

My best memories are not too old!!

Dana,

also bear in mind [& this may be the only thing thats bigger in the UK than in the US] that our 'pints' are bigger than yours. A Uk pint is 20 ozs not 16 as in the US. I was drinking beer a few years ago at a wedding over here with some American guests & they didn't work that one out in time, whereas I knew what I was doing, & so have no excuses for the state I was in later on.

As the saying goes '' I'm always in the sh*t, it's only the depth that varies!''

Best wishes, Tyke.

Thanks for the notes! I was reading over the posts in "Terminal 5" on this forum and it looks like I'll need both good luck AND a few pints to survive the whole experience!

Heatrow NightMare

Hi Dana,
in 2006 I went from heathrow to murmansk via Helsinki.
I arrived at heathrow airport two hours prior to departure checked in two bags, one with clothes only and one with hooks lines and reels and I could keep the rods as hand lugage, the bag with the hooks, lines and reels never arrived in Helsinki...stuck at the security check.
So what I now do is:
1. try not to go through heathrow airport
2. pack one small check-in bag with all the stuff that could stop my bag at the security check for a manual search(hooks) (try to do one bag with none problematic stuff like waders, shoes, sunglasses and one with bad stuff like reels rods and hooks)
3. take the reels, lines and tube flies in my handlugage (in your case I would make sure that you go through the security check for carry on lugage as early as possible so that if they are not ok with the reels and lines you have time to ckeck them in, you will need a bag for that since you will not be able to access your other checked in lugage)

4. Heathrow is in the middle of nowhere the next pub that you will survive is 40m away by tube...

5. There are some nice wisky shops next to the gates where you can try a lot of different wiskies....

Regards and enjoy russia

Hi Dana,

I didn't read this thread until now, but I can help. First off, there are some good pubs in Heathrow. If you want to "strech your legs" and visit a real British pub you can. Take the Heathrow Express from the airport into Paddington Station, there is a very good pub in the station itself. It is called The Mad Bishop and Bear, and can be reached by an escalator that you see very clearly inside the station. It has good beer (London Pride) and very good bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes).

Note that the fare for the Heathrow Express train round trip will be about $50. It takes about 15 minutes from the airport into Paddington Station, so it is very fast and easy to do. Giving the timing, you will have perhaps an hour to spend before having to go back to Heathrow for your flight. Remember if you are traveling outside the UK you need to be back to Heathrow two hours before your scheduled departure. Nonetheless, this will give you a chance to enjoy a couple of pints and soak in Britain.

Hope that this helps,
David
