Campbell River

I have the opportunity to be on Vancouver Island and staying in Campbell River for a couple days in mid-May. I need some suggestions for rods, lines and flies. Since I'm on a business trip I'm stuck with single-handed rods that fit in my luggage.

I'm told that there are some steelhead in the river now as well as sea run cuts. Anyone have some suggestions?

Thanks.

Michael

Nothing is more magical that fishing the "Masters" stream with a fly rod. If you have not read Roderick Haig-Browns books than do it before you come. This was such a treat for me and another brother who made the jurney to the see and feel his stream in 1990. The first piece of water we fished was Haig's favorite the Island pool and what a special piece of water it is! I rose and landed my first Steelhead on a dry - Magical. We each rose a few more and we fished all of the river wanting to take more of it in. Go enjoy yourself! the Master will shine on you nomatter what the cathing is like!

I couldn't agree more....

Casting in the Bridge Pool or the Line Fence pool is a magical experience and my time on the Campbell confirmed me as a fisherman and a Steelheader. Go to Haig-Brown house if you can. I was lucky enough to make friends there and fully intend to return every year as long as I am able. The Gold is equally sublime.
