Bio-security Customs at UK International Airports

After some guidelines, real life experiences of travellers bringing their fly fishing gear into the UK through airport customs, from NZ or any other country, for that matter. I have a trip planned which will include some salmon fishing and intend bringing a reel (used) backing plus line (new in packaging) all other equipment will be bought or guide supplied in the UK.

no worries.
and I took everything. twice. once in '09 and again in '11.

you might want to leave line in your proper luggage... they won't want you garrotting all the passengers and airline staff.

I'd be more concerned with returning to nz...

cheers,
shawn

Reels and Lines

On a recent trip to the US and Canada and back, i carried 6 reels with lines on them in my carry on backpack without any drama's. I specificaly asked Border Security and Bio Security at several airports about this and they all said no problem, as long as they have been cleaned and dried thoroughly, also did not have issues bringing them back inito Aust.......apply the same Didimo treatment you use in NZ and dry them would be fine is my guess....but i would check with UK rules just to be sure.
