Sacramento area guide recommendations

Hi All,

Going to be staying Sacramento second week of May and looking to get out for at least one day.

Any info on what / where or who is good this time of year greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Brett

So that is going to be a good time to go fishing for shad in the American River in Sacramento itself or nearby in the Sacramento River. Shad ( herring family) are another anadromous fish and can be a blast on the swing. They pull about 3 times as hard per pound as trout and are 1-4 lbs. There are also stripers in the local rivers and the delta and the lower Sacramento ( Redding) nearby a few hours north has some of the best wild trout on he west coast. Kienies fly shop in Sacramento is a good place to get advice on local guides. The Fly Shop in Redding for the area north.

Maury Hatch is a hell of a fun guy to fish with for stripers or shad, but seldom has openings these days. He'd be my top pick, has a jet boat and runs all the valley rivers, otherwise call the folks at Fly Fishing Specialties and they'll lead you in the right direction.

I'd look up Tom Peirano he fishes the Sacramento, American, Yuba River, and a few others to get you into the right fish. He's a really good guy and know all the nooks and cranny's of the area rivers.
