Looking for +1 on a Winter trip to S.W. Oregon - Chetco, Lower Rogue, etc.

I'm thinking seriously about trying to find someone here on the speypages that might be interested in splitting a guided trip in January or early February to the southern Oregon coast rivers for Steelhead, possibly multiple venues depending on last minute factors and interests, for 2-3 (maybe could swing 4) days. None of my Fishing buddy regulars is free or game for this, but I am not to be dissuaded!

I have a guide I'd like to use, and this would be a "swing-only" type trip. The guide has a jetboat for access, and has a lot of experience (and a house) in the area. We would split the guide fees of $450 per day, and we could split the hotel fees if desired. Google Confluence Outfitters for more info. Geno would be our spey-friendly-spey-experienced guide. That is to say he can handle helping (or not) as required at pretty much any level of experience. Most importantly he knows where the fish are, and is a pleasant guy who when given the choice would prefer swinging for Steelhead over other methods.

One nice thing about a winter trip to the coast is that the temperature should be fairly moderate and comfortable compared to inland - 40s and 50s F courtesy of the proximity of the Pacific ocean. The other thing would be fishing for white-chrome steelhead close to the salt! :-)

If you are interested in discussing the possibility drop me a pm. There is no rush just yet to decide. I'm pretty flexible on dates - weekdays preferred though. Let me know what you think. I will be leaving tomorrow morning and will be back Friday night, so I may not see or respond to any pms before then.

We can play it from there if there is any interest, and see if we are simpatico about what we would want.

I fished with Geno last month and I will say he is one of the best around. I would love to go, but may not be able to. This year is also going to be a high water year. Hope all goes well, fish on!

Save for the last few days we haven't had a drop of rain: USGS Current Conditions for USGS 14339000 ROGUE RIVER AT DODGE BRIDGE, NEAR EAGLE POINT, OR This is the top end of the Rogue.

Probably too late for any of the smaller Oregon Coastal streams. This/that were 'stacked up' at the mouth of the rivers; went up like a rocket were attached to their tails.

I would be interested and have fished with Geno and other Confluence guides. I sent a PM with my contact information, if it did not go through reply here and I will try again. Thanks, John

If you wanna house sit my house for 2 weeks, Its on a special steelhead river that opens up January first. I actually do need someone to house sit from the 1st to the 15th while im in Belize.
This Geno you refer to leaves beers and flies on my bench when he goes by...hes my neighbor...
Or, if you are coming down after Jan 15th, Ill be in town to fish any of the Southern oregon water. I told my wife that I will be doing nothing but fishing in February and March. I have the green light. stay in touch, seriously. I love going fishing, and do so nearly every day.

I'd also be super keen to check out the coast, depending on timing and conditions.

So basically, i have a truck, a drift boat, 3 great runs of steelhead water in my back yard, lots of flies and gear, and plenty of time to fish. lets do it

Me too

I'd be up for a February trip. Any interest in adding Smith River to the adventure list?

I would certainly house-sit and fish, that sounds like the best deal ever.

Hi folks just got back from several days on the Trinity. Thanks for the responses. I'll contact all the pms I got tomorrow. I'm excited to get a trip planned for January and/or Febuary.

Washington/Oregon rivers are (at the moment)....

Totally blown out. Upper Rogue went from 1,000 cfs to 33,000 in one week!!! This is straight up from Medford: USGS Current Conditions for USGS 14359000 ROGUE RIVER AT RAYGOLD NEAR CENTRAL POINT, OR

When all this settles down fishing should be good.

I again. I replied to everyone that PMed me I think. Sorry for the delay. I just got back from the Trinity where I worked very hard on my own this time learning some walk and wade areas. But is was a hard week for fish for most people - even the guys doing nymphing from a boat!

Please let me know if you did not get a pm (or email) from me. For some reasons my PMs are set up so it does not record my outgoing messages. I better take a look at that soon. You can also email be direct at [email protected].

Geno's schedule filled up fast (as I should have realized it would) but still has Jan and Feb dates available - you can check them out on the confluence website schedule, which I am assuming I'm not allowed to link directly here. Email me for a link if you are having trouble.
