Fishing Cuba.

Need a bit help here.
Im thinking go to Cuba, Cayo Coco in Jan - Feb 2016. We will be group of 3, the plan was to only take return flight rent a car and stay in house particular, ( private accommodation ). We were going stay Cayo Coco for 1 week and fish for bones and tarpon, hiring a guide on most days and some diy if possible. We would then stay another 2 weeks travelling round different parts of Cuba.
I have visited Cuba before but not fishing. I would not be looking for luxury a rustic accommodation will suit fine.
On or near Caya Coca (stay in small town ) can we find private accommodation ? How far is it from mainland over to Island ?
Most important is the bone fishing any good in jan feb, and how is it for wind ?
The basic outline of this holiday is fly to Havana then to travel round Cuba for 3 weeks, and do 1 week full fishing, then fish a day here or there, and find a cure for rum hangover. When I have my destinations in Cuba sorted I will look online for guides. Please any help in this would be great.

Scotsmac1,

I've just fished Cayo Coco in aug/sept.
In my opinion DIY is not the most easy way at Coco.
I've used a official local Cuban guide, not so expansive as in the rest of Cuba.

If you want to stay in al local place you have to look for the town Moron.
This is the town where al staff who work at Cayo Coco life and at about 40 minutes from Coco
At Coco itself there are only 4 and 5 stars resorts as far as I know.

Bones are there all year, only know that the Tarpon season ends around september, when it starts I don't know.
Think feb is also good for Permit. Wind should be OK in jan/feb.
Busy time with Canadian/UK flyfisherman so I advise if you want a guide do some prebooking.

good luck!!
