Clearwater River In December

Good day knowledgeable gents, I am planning a trip to the clearwater river in December, and am curious as to where I should be focusing on that river as there are 60 miles of fishable water, or whether it matters. Will be a walk and wade trip with up to 4 anglers and two vehicles.

Any information is appreciated, aswell recommended potential patterns and town names would be appreciated so we can plan accomadations. (if i can also get away with not using a skagit and maybe a winter authority 55 or even fall favourite 70, insight would be appreciated)

Thank you
Malcolm

A dark day makes winter chrome all the brighter.

There are actually more like 75 miles of fishable water and no it doesnt matter. Explore. Orofino is where most people stay. Bring flies from 1/0 to 6 most likely.

That being said. The river can be very unpredictable with flows and clarity in december. With all the fires this year, even more so times a thousand. There is a lot of fire caused sediment already building up in spots from the recent rains.

Just back from there. Lots of fire silt in the river and will slowly wash its way out, but it's going to take time. When the river blows out its a couple days til it recovers. As for lines your WA's are perfect. I picked up a WA55 8/9 for my 9145 and a 55 7/8 for my 8142 from Poppy while I was there and will most likely just leave the floating tip on both. No reason you can't use your 70. Shame of it all for me is I was sick the whole time I was there so got no river time personally. Stay at Konkolville Motel and stop in at the Red Shed and tell Poppy I said hello. That shop and a few minutes visiting with him pretty much makes my trip over there. Kind of like the cherry on top.
