Deschutes River conditions

Just got back from 4 days on the D. From Macks Canyon to Heritage was nothing but milky, 6" clarity water! Howling winds that rarely abated! White River was really kicking in silt.

Strongly suggest checking in with Deschutes Anglers prior to any trips on the D from Macks to Heritage.

Not only is fishing compromised, but rocks are more difficult (if not impossible) to see when wading and floating!

silt

Man we need to fix the karma with the silt gods up on Mt Hood. Just prior to your trip I was on the river and we had vis to about 1 1/2 feet and actually had a little success but when it's 3" wow that river is ugly. Haven't seen this condition that has lasted so long before. Hope it clears, I know a lot of guys are gonna be disappointed.

Bob,
I hope you had plenty of reading material, beverage, and good company on your trip. I heard Marty Howard was on last week as well.

I spent a great deal of time cleaning my lines after my last trip. That glacial sh**, er stuff is horrid in many ways.

Argh! Wish I'd have known Marty was there, and what his boat looked like! Would have been good to visit.

Empty bottles brought home! Saw quite a few 3/4 curl bighorn rams high on the open slopes, and some other cool wildlife.

Bikini hatch not on, so missed that.

Too bad you guys had such difficult fishing on your trips. Unless we get some serious cool weather I think this is going to continue, at least off and on, well into September. Low snowpack and hot weather the last few years has made August a crapshoot.

Interesting!

Dam tough to get a sheep tag. Almost as tough to get a Deschutes river permit! Even with a milk chocolate river.

I'm sure hoping some people cancel their passes over the next few weeks.
