Hazelton & Smithers

Hey everyone was thinking about making a fishing trip up north with my brother. Not sure if there will be any fresh springs around next week August 8-15th.

Was also thinking about steelhead fishing and drifting the bulkley river. Would you say it's worthwhile during this timeframe. Otherwise we would be fishing skeena or kispiox. I'm usually up there in late September and into October so I'm not familiar with the systems this time of the year.

No fresh ones by then but they are around in certain areas. Better of fishing Skeena for all 5 and steelhead.

Greatly appreciate the insight. So can't wait to hook into some monsters. I love steelheading but I'm hearing we are a little early for the strong numbers.

Low flows will be the issue in most of the PNW.

Most rivers have flow gauges (one or more), this will give you a good idea what to expect in the general area.

Thanks Fredaevans! That's an awesome idea! I'm super excited like a child on Xmas morning to begin my trip north this afternoon. It's a homecoming of sorts for my brother as he lived up there for a while.

Thanks again for all those who replied to this thread. Had a great time in the north and cannot wait until September to head back for the steelheading. Caught many salmon on the skeena. Lost count over 60 and not one of them was a chum.

Tight lines, and thank you!

Awesome! This is getting me super excited. I'm heading up there later next week for 10 days. Doing 3-4 on the Skeena and the rest on the Bulkley. Did you do any drifts on the Bulkley too? Any luck on it or was it still a bit early when you were up there? I'm tying up a few skaters to try for a steelie on the dry fly too.
