Kispiox

Hello,

some fishingbuddies and me are planning to fish Kispiox river in October 2016 for Steelhead. We stay near to the Cottonwood Pool. Is there anybody who can give us advice for fishing Kispiox:

- Flies (Intruder?);
- Lines;
- which part of the river is good;
- and so on?

Is it good to go for the first weeks of October or is it better to go for the two last weeks of October?

Many thanks in advance and tight lines,

Andreas

First two weeks would be better than the last two! It will be very cold the end of October. For flies black and blue leech patterns / intruder patterns, plus all your favorite steelhead colors. And for lines skagits with T material up to T-14 , remember cold water slower fish. So get down and slow down, but there will still be some hot grabs so hold on. Have fun .

Kispiox

Hello Steelheaders,

as I have heard the first nations Gitxsan demand a fee for fishing and enter theirs land at the Kispiox river. Does anyone knows, if the fee is negotiable? We are a group of four fishermen and 2.800 Bucks per person is a lot of money. Can anyone give me a contact to reach the Gitxsan office at the Kispiox river?

Tight lines,

Andreas

Try www.gitxsan.com and click on the contact link top right. You can send them an e-mail direct and it also gives you a phone#. Good luck and let us know what you hear.

Kispiox

Hi.
I fish the Kispiox regularly. Yes there is a few to fish on the reserve land. No few to fish off it. Also out of province are not allowed to fish the river on weekends unless with a local guide. You can purchase your river passes at the band office in Kispiox Village. The fees can get quite high for those who chose to drift the river. $100 a day for non residents. I prefer October since the river in quieter. September can be busy. Any more questions feel free to private message me.

Not exactly correct. Out of province Canadians can still fish on the weekends.

We don't get a break on the fees to fish the reserve though. Unless the fee structure has changed, I think it's $25/day for BC residents and $100/day for everyone else. I tried the "nation to nation" argument ("I'm Canadian, You're Gitxsan") with the River Guardian and it didn't work.

I live close to the Kispiox. I am glad they charge what they do. Being a local I fish the river a lot. A lot , but not all of the out of country anglers that come have no respect for the area. They leave garbage all over the place , and have no angling eticit. They assume since they pay , they can do as they please. I have had guys show up to the run I was fishing and just start fishing next to me. Crossing lines. No respect ! The attitude of many is disgusting. No respect for the fish. Once again , I'm not saying all out of country. So to have a high fee for them to fish , brings in the anglers who eat sleep and breath fishing.

Also I think $100 a day to fish the Kispiox is reasonable. To be able to fish wild steelhead in a setting like that , has no price.

Kispiox Band Council

Information Sheets

Welcome to the Kispiox Reserve. The reserve lands are private property. In order to experience our world class
fishing or sightseeing on a lazy raft down the river we charge a nominal access fee. To collect the fee, the Band Council
Employs River Guardians whom you will meet on the river. The River guardians are local persons and are very
knowledgeable with the fishing in this area and are certified Guides in river rafting. They also hold first aid
Certification. The River Guardians will carry Band issued identification.

In order to enjoy our waters all you have to do is pay the nominal fee when approached by our River Guardians.
or drop into the Gas bar or Band Office
Feel free to ask our riverguardians about some of the local hotspots and local craftsmen who tie some of the best
Flys in the business. Our goal is to remain open and accessible to all who want to come and enjoy our pristine waters

For fishing licences, we recommend checking in with Service BC who issue fishing permits for the Province
of British Columbia. Some local restrictions apply as do some special licencing dealing with restricted waters
and conservation.

For local BC residents, we charge $ 25 per day or $ 100.00 for 5 days . For non local BC residents, we charge $ 50 per day or
$ 200.00 for 5 days. For non BC residents, we charge $ 100 per day or $ 450 for 5 days.

When asked about our rates please consider for a moment, when a person goes to pay for a world class golf experience
they may pay upwards of $ 200.00 per round. We feel our nominal charge is reasonable for world class-all day fishing experiences.

On behalf of Chief Barnes and the Band Council, Welcome to Kispiox.

Please feel free to call us at 250-842-5248

What's the difference between local BC residents and non-local BC residents?

For Canadians residing outside of BC are we subject to non-BC residents and the $100 fee?

Thanks.

Thank you also , Kispiox Council , for some clarification on Reserve fishing use! With the fee's you have listed , is raft takeout/launch included ? Or an additional fee for raft? With previous questions also , I'll be very interested in responses . Regards Steve

Is there a daily limit on licenses sold? By buying these licenses to fish is there some exclusivity for this water (i.e. X number of rods per pool per day)?

Thanks,

gbs
