Line Stick for underhand cast

Is there a rule of thumb on where to place the fly/leader when using the underhand casting method? I recall from somewhere that as a a general rule for the single Spey the fly should land upstream of the angler and the distance from the angler should be roughly equal to the length of rod that you are using. Would you say this is pretty much the same for underhand casting? From some video footage it appears to me that the fly lands closer to the angler than this above mentioned rule.

Also, I believe the older LOOP graphics on the underhand casting method indicated that you initiate the forward cast while the leader is still sliding backwards towards the angler. Any comments on this?

I look forward to hearing from the old hands in this style of casting.

So long
Tom.
