versi leaders vs poly leaders

Im new to spey fishing and casting what are the difference between the two. Someone mentioned that the versi leaders are the same weight for either floating or sinking there by allowing you to have the same consistent casting stroke. I thought the poly leaders were also the same. Please explain this to me.

Versi-leaders / polyleaders are synonomous..
Versi-leaders are made by Rio
Polyleaders are made by Airflo

Both brands provide leaders with various sink-rates, length, and break strength. Both are generally used when fishing a scandi-style line.

versi-leaders are same as poly leaders

These are also used extensively with Spey lines, not just Scandi heads

They all vary in weight, depending on the sink rate. With the versileaders, though, the difference is way more pronounced. The fastest sinking versileaders weigh about twice as much as comparable polyleaders. I like consistency too, so I use the Airflo polyleaders.

I weighed a couple of Airflo 10 ft poly tips (the standard 24 lbs breaking strain ones) in answer to a question on a UK forum; the clear intermediate was 2 grams (approx 31 grains) whilst the extra super fast sinker (LSR24) weighed 8 grams ( approx 123 grains) & the densities between these increase in weight with each faster sinking rate.

It is not as noticeable on a #10/11 rated outfit, but you can really feel the shift in the balance & turnover on a #7 wt Scandi line or fine tipped longer belly as the faster rated tips are substituted for the slower ones.

Regards, Tyke.

Anyone either of these breaking due to "rash" from rubbing on rocks ?

Brian

Don't sweat the bad casts for they sometimes bring you fish
