Im looking to match this up with a skagit set up but I need some guidance on what weight skagit head to buy.Am I correct in thinking something like 380~420 grains???
I had a 10' 6" #7/8 switch which loaded sweet at 24.5g/380 grain SH lines
MOW tips....what would you advise medium or light??
the problem with "custom" rods is that there are few established grain recommendations...esp with switch rods. Switch rod line/grain designations vary wildly between manufacturer's. For instance..one of my 7wt's likes 300-360 gr., while my other 7wt likes 400-450gr.
Do you know what blank it is? that may lead to some better answers.
I would start around 400-450 for shorter heads, and adjust from there to find your sweet spot...probably going to take some trial and error.
Good luck
I will ask what the blank is tomorrow. The only pointer I can find in an email is that other anglers using SHeads rate the rod at 20g/310 grains hence I came to a "guess" that the skagit weight would be heavier than that.
I asked the builder what blank he was supplying me with & it is a bespoke fast actioned blank specific to his specifications so I think its going to be a trial & error thing.I think before trying skagit lines which I know little about I will experiment with some custom SHead's.Then take it from there.
