Quality atlantic salmon flies (to fish)

After shying away from the costs for the last few years, I've decided to finally book a trip to Norway.

Can anyone recommend a good fly company to buy proper flies for fishing? - For steelhead, I have come to rely on OPST, Aqua and custom tied flies. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with atlantic salmon flies.. (and I hate buying flies just to realize later that the hooks break as soon as you hook a good fish... catch rates are too low to gamble!)

Thanks

If I was going to Norway and was going to buy flies rather than tie them, I'd contact this guy.
https://www.frodinflies.com/

I don't know how it is to do business with him, but he certainly knows Norwegian rivers. He could most probably help set you up with an appropriate selection for the river(s) you are going to fish.

Just my 0.02$

Check with this guy
https://www.granbo-flyfishing.no/index_eng.php
There'a goldmine there just on flies only !
Lakselva Green and Black , and Sunray Shadows are flies that originated there and work VERY well here in north America

Also the fishmadmen site from Denmark, I think it’s rifflehitch.com. Excellent stuff, especially wakers.

I’ll tie you Sunday shadows for a fair price.

You can look at my IG account: ‘ Straits on the Fly custom flies’ for reference to my flies.

Aside from getting my flies made by some folks here (thanks Mike!), reelflies.ca has some real quality flies at excellent prices.

No affiliation. Mods can delete if posting links is not allowed. Just a happy customer.

don't worry about the hook breaking, worry about size and profile!!
Best to contact any local fly shop or outfitter in Norway on what you should look at.

Every area has its own recipes....... size, style, etc......

Going direct to Frodin or Granbo will see you with the best top drawer flee's, but at a hearty price!.
Scandi tubes in general require time and effort in their construction, you will pay a hearty premium for flee's tied by these two( they are two of the best Scandinavian fishers out there, their time will be in great demand! and you'll have to pay for this as well as the flee's)
However Frodins flee's are available here commercially in the Uk from several sources, he won't personally have tied them, but they will be good. Its not purely down to them being tube flee's but how they sit and act in the water.Properly constructed stacked wing flee's will put fish on the bank for you!.Try Sports Fish in the UK,they do deal on line world wide-at least you'll see what you will be needing!.A commercially tied Frodin flee will come in at about £8 each, double that for flee's tied by the man himself.
Were I you I'd look on you tube and make the effort to tie yourself, you'll save a fortune!.
Tubes require treble hooks, nothing special there easily available any where.
Think about this 1st., there are those on here who are Scandinavian, or there will be those who can tie for you, either way there'll be help and advice aplenty.
Also try the Salmon Fishing Forum in the UK, its out there and easy to access, some very good experienced anglers on there who tie excellent flies, there's how to guides, step by steps and actual killing patterns all there for the looking at.I'm on there as Rennie, I can gladly point you towards the right people to talk to any time.
Happy to help and just as eaqualy happy to point you in the right direction if you need advice too!.
Exceedingly envious, Yorkie.

Hello.. Have no fear. You´ll mostly probably find local dressers, selling their flies at local shops. I can put you in contact with Swedish amateur dressers as well, most rivers are covered from here. They will serve you with both tubeflies and flies dressed on hooks, your or their choice. If you just will name the river(s), I´ll sort the appropriate dresser out for you. Good luck!! Yours borano20

Helmsdale Company in Scotland make nice locally made flies at reasonable cost.
If the cost of a locslly tied fly is anything like the cost of anything in Norway itll be eye watering!

I would go with Yooper. He looks like he has got his tube flies locked down!

Not only does he have them down, I’m sure he will give you a reasonable price in comparison to Frodin or Granbo
